Last week, at least 1,000 Sub-Saharan migrants tried to storm the border fence between Morocco and the Spanish enclave of Melilla, with almost half of the migrants succeeding in crossing the border into Europe. Many, however, were beaten back by Moroccan and Spanish police. Those who succeeded in scaling the fence will now spend many months if not years in limbo waiting to see whether they will be granted asylum, and a new life in Europe, or will instead be returned to their home countries.
